About the event

Join me as we walk through a pivotal threshold of transformation, where you will be returning to an ancient craft to bring forth life into your own medicine drum. During a soulful 2 day voyage you will bind your blessings & weave your intentions together to craft a sacred drum, that will become a powerful ally for your own healing and homecoming

As you arrive on Saturday, we will open up our ceremonial space by weaving in the forces of the directions, elements and guides. With the trees as our guardians, the sacred land as our anchor and the fire as our centre piece, we will move into our sharing circle where we begin to weave in the energy of our intentions.

The spirit of the drum is now beginning to find its way home to you, where we begin the selection process. Your hoop and hide will call you forth to be its guardian. We will begin the deep ritual work, venerating and honouring both the hide and hoop in a series of drumming ceremonies and blessing rituals. Offering prayers of gratitude to these divine resources.

We return to the fire and woodland to gather again on Sunday. Here we will open our ceremonial portal, where we will begin preparing the hide and cutting the lacing. You will then go on to weave prayers, birth life and embellish you drum & craft your beater.

Once you have breathed life and birthed your drum into this early realm – there will be time to reflect on the inner teachings and integrate the outer workings. You will then embark on a deep vision journey to meet the spirit of your drum to uncover its purpose and wisdom teachings.

Stories of binding power and the work of wise hands

"Our ancient foremothers have always used their hands to measure out their journeys and to pass on information and wisdom and secrets to the women who follow in their footsteps. Through the things that they made, through the twist and wrap and bind of their skilled fingers, they captured a feeling, an insight, a message for their daughters, a moment in time. Now the primordial hands of our mothers enfold our own as we in turn create the things that describe our lives and enrich our journeys and anchor the landscapes of our souls. As our fingers engage in the old crafts of our mothers, we also touch the mystical traditions of women's work. Of course, the work of wise hands may surprise us, for most of the magic lies in the creating rather than the perfection of the end result" ~Carolyn Hillyer

Disclaimer

Birthing your own drum is such an incredibly rewarding and often can offer people a life changing portal or transformation or milestone marked in your life. During the weekend, you will be held in my gentle and loving guidance. Please also note, that as we are working in deep ceremonial space it at times can at times be triggering and emotionally intense.

In addition, you will be working with sharp tools and the crafting process requires a level of endurance that, at times, can be demanding.

Drumming Contraindications:

Drum circles are not a substitute for medical consultation for physical, mental and psychological illnesses, but it is a powerful natural complementary form of healing as well as a space for social interaction. It is not a therapy group and should not be seen by participants as such.

Like any form of sound work it may not be suitable for everyone as it involves some loud noise and repetitive beats.

Those with Tinnitus and Menieres disease may find that the use of ear plugs helps them join a drum circle without over stimulating the ears.

Those with epilepsy and those otherwise affected by repetitive sound should consider their triggers and make the session leader aware of any needs they may have.

It is particularly contraindicated for those suffering from active schizophrenia, PTSD and other reality perception altering illnesses as repetitive drumming can change the brain waves and induce trance like states.

Those in the early stages of pregnancy or those who have suffered recurrent miscarriage, and are currently pregnant, should take medical advice before joining a drum circle.

Along with the effects of sound the active sharing space may trigger some people with past trauma. It is to be noted that the Sacred Women’s Drum Circle Facilitators do not take on the role of a therapist in the gathering and should not be treated as such. They may need to intervene and invite participants to seek alternative or additional support.
